Restaking Protocols Publish First Slashing Postmortems

Operators penalised in the initial live enforcement events say the failures were configuration errors rather than malicious behaviour.

Two restaking protocols published detailed postmortems this week covering their first live slashing events, in which a small number of operators lost a portion of delegated stake.

Both documents attribute the penalties to configuration mistakes during client upgrades rather than to deliberate misbehaviour, a pattern familiar from years of proof-of-stake operations on base layers.

The novel element is the propagation of risk. Delegators who restaked to multiple services were exposed to penalties from each, and the reports show that some operators had opted into more services than their monitoring could cover.

Risk researchers have argued for correlation limits on which services can share the same operator set. Neither protocol has adopted a hard rule.

Affected delegators received partial reimbursement from operator-funded insurance pools in one of the two cases.
