Immersion Cooling Retrofits Gain Ground in the Gulf

Heat and humidity have pushed operators toward liquid cooling, a capital-intensive change that also extends hardware life.

Mining operators in high-temperature regions are retrofitting air-cooled halls with immersion systems, submerging machines in dielectric fluid to sustain output during summer months when ambient conditions force air-cooled fleets to throttle.

The capital cost is significant, typically several hundred dollars per machine including fluid, tanks and heat rejection equipment.

Operators justify the spend on two grounds: uptime during peak revenue periods and longer hardware life, since thermal cycling is a principal cause of component failure.

Insurers have begun to differentiate premiums between cooling architectures, according to two brokers who place coverage for the sector.
